Congratulations to our 2023 Community Hero Finalist - Sarah Ibrahim

In this episode, Smokeball’s General Manager, Bianca Bowron-Cuthill, had the pleasure of interviewing Sarah Ibrahim, Director of the Racial Justice Centre and a deserving runner-up in Smokeball’s 2023 Community Hero Awards.

Sarah is an experienced commercial and human rights lawyer and a passionate advocate for racial justice and increased diversity within the legal profession.

Sarah runs her own commercial law firm Central Lawyers, and founded the Racial Justice Centre after seeing a substantial need for legal advice and public interest litigation to further the cause of racial equality in Australia. The Racial Justice Centre is a not-for-profit legal service that is currently run by a team of professionals and students volunteering their time.

Listen in as Bianca and Sarah unpack:

  • Sarah's path to becoming a lawyer is one filled with purpose. Sarah shares how her passion for human rights began at an early age and propelled her into a career fighting for justice.
  • Her journey into founding the Racial Justice Centre, a not-for-profit organisation that provides services to fight for racial justice. And how this impactful movement brings in experts in discrimination to strategise and think differently towards this goal.
  • Her experience as a woman-in-law and the key challenges she has seen and encountered first-hand, as well as her advice for other women navigating similar paths.
  • Sarah unbundles what the International Women's Day 2023 theme #EmbraceEquity means to her and discusses the importance of linking the struggles of all women in the fight for equity.
  • Plus, much more!
